NoWorries Career Services

"Providing Complete, Interactive Career Counseling and Training Services for Individuals and Businesses"

From the time I was growing up in Springfield, Missouri, the only thing I ever remember wanting to be was a teacher.  I started college wanting to be a High School English teacher, but ended up graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.  With such a high surplus of teachers at the time I graduated, I took my Education degree and transitioned into Mental Health, first as a Job Coach with high school students with developmental disabilities, then working as a Psychiatric Technician and Expressive Therapy Assistant in a psychiatric hospital, and finally as a Residential Counselor in a group home.  By this time I was living in Des Moines, Iowa, and shortly after, I took a full-time job in customer service working in the hospitality industy as a Night Auditor at a hotel (a job no one else seemed to want to do), and also working part-time as a Manager at a movie theater.  After several years of keeping this crazy schedule, I moved into a Retail Mangement position.

My retail management experience to me to Minneapolis.  I held a couple of Customer Service and Retail Management positions, until I lost my job at Linens 'n Things.  I became involved in the Dislocated Workers' program and took Job Search workshops at several of the Workforce Centers around the Twin Cities.  One day when I was sitting in one of these workshops, I remember thinking to myself, "With my Education background, I could teach these workshops (and do a better job than a lot of the persenters were doing)."  I decided I wanted to transition into being a Career Counselor, and began working on my GCDF, a Career Counseling certification program.  This certification allows me go back to my first love, and use my degree to "teach;" not elementary school curriculum to children, but job skills to a very diverse population of adults who are in career transition.

My approach to Career Counseling is to provide clients with self-guided activities to help them identify job-specific skills, show them where they can find resources to help them learn these skills, and guide them along that path.  Job search is a learning process that I believe is best learned through an interactive approach, where the client feels everything they are doing in this process is leading them to their next great career opportunity.

The explosion of Social Media Marketing over the past few years has not just changed the way job seekers go about finding a job, it has also had a big effect on the way businesses go about advertising.   Small businesses MUST learn how to adopt the concetps of Social Media Marketing if they are going to retain their loyal customer base, not to mention expand it at the rate larger businesses who are actively using Social Media Marketing principles are.  Along with providing the highest quality career services for those people in career transition or those who are seeking a career change to a more fulfilling career, I make it the mission of NoWorries Career Services to take my experience and background in Customer Service and Retail Management to provide businesses with the resouces available for training to be competetive in their market, in hopes of preventing hundreds and thousands of people from losing their jobs, just like those at Linens 'n Things, and the many other businesses like them over the last couple of years.

I hope you allow me to join you on the jouney to empower you,

Greg Lane
